What is Masala Bhangra ?

Masala means “spicy” in Hindi, Bhangra is a traditional folk dance from the Northern part of Punjab, India. The Masala Bhangra Workout® is an exercise dance class that modernizes the high-energy folk dance of Bhangra by blending Bhangra dance steps with the exhilaration or Bollywood (Hindi film) moves.

What are the benefits and who can do it?

This unique dance mixes cardiovascular with fun and can be modified to the comfort level of the participant, making it accessible for participants of all ages and fitness levels. It provides overall toning, especially in the shoulders, abs and legs and can burn more than 500 calories per class (depending on the individual). Masala Bhangra is a complete cardiovascular dance program that utilizes Indian folk dance so while you are building endurance and stamina, and learning a new culture at the same time.

How is the Masala Bhangra similar to traditional dance/fitness classes?

Like traditional dance/fitness classes, Masala Bhangra incorporates a warm-up, choreography, and a cool-down. It also repeats from the top so you are always adding onto the choreography. At the end, you jam out with the choreography you have learned.

How is the Masala Bhangra different?

Unlike traditional dance classes where you learn an 8 count of choreography without music, Masala Bhangra always has you moving with the music. If you get lost or need to catch your breath, you keep the heart rate going by doing the Basic. It's continuous movement for 45 mins to 60 mins.

What is a Masala Bhangra® Master Class ?

Sarina Jain, the creator of the Masala Bhangra or a Masala Bhangra Master Instructor (click here to see a list of Master Instructors). All of our Master instructors have been hand-picked by Sarina Jain because of their experience, their passion and understanding of the program, and their ability to teach and train students and other teachers. Taking a Masala Bhangra® Master class is a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills and styles from an instructor who has extensive experience teaching, performing and choreographing.

Training Questions

Why is the Masala Bhangra® Ambassador training priced the way it is?

Ambassador trainings are 8 hours (1 day). They are intense and are kept small so that we can concentrate on giving each trainee the attention they deserve to be a successful Ambassador. In each training, we go through the foundation of Masala Bhangra, the history, the foundation moves, practicals and group practicals. We give you feedback, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone, allowing you to see what is working and what is not working. We want to make sure that once you leave the training you feel confident enough to represent the Masala Bhangra® Ambassador team. We follow up with our newly certified Ambassadors and we give them support wherever they need it (how to get started, marketing suggestions, etc). Each trainee receives a manual, instructional DVD, 2 Masala Bhangra Workout® CDs and a a pair of hand scarves. Masala Bhangra Ambassador Training program is accredited with AFAA and ACE!

Do I have to be a certified instructor or have teaching experience to take the training?

No, it is not required, however, it is highly recommended.

Why is being group certified or having teaching experience so important?

Teaching experience ensures that you will be comfortable in teaching in front of a group of people. While even the most experienced group fitness instructor will be nervous the first time they teach the Masala Bhangra their experience allows them to work past the nerves to provide a class that flows smoothly. Being AFAA or ACE certified allows you to teach with the knowledge of how to conduct to all fitness levels. The training accrues a large number of CEUs for certified professionals so this is also a plus in their favor.

What are the pre-requisites for various trainings provided by MBW® ?

It is essential that you have the have fundamentals of basic training before you can move on. You have to take Level 1 in order to do Level 2 and or Bar Bhangra®. Pre-requisite for Level 2 or Bar Bhangra is Level 1.

How can I sign up for a training?

What should I bring to the training?

You will be sweating…a lot. Please bring a change of clothing, a towel, pen or pencil to take notes, notebook, water, and snacks.

I am interested in taking a training but there are none in my area. What do I do?

Keep checking the website. We are constantly updating the website with new training opportunities. Also, join our mailing lists so you can receive email updates about future trainings. Email us as well so we can see what we can do about orchestrating a training nearby.

How can I cancel/postpone a training?

Please email info@masaladance.com explaining your situation. Per our Terms and Conditions there will be a $25 transfer fee. Transferring is pending on space availability of desired location.

What do I do if my training is cancelled?

Pending space availability you can transfer to another training (transfer fee waived). If not, your balance credit will be kept on file. You may also request a refund. *Please note, Masala Dance and Fitness, Inc. reserves the right to cancel a training due to low registration, or extreme circumstances such as weather or acts beyond our control. We will make every effort to reschedule a training if not in your area then nearby. We cannot, however, be responsible for any expenses such as traveling costs resulting from these cancellations.

What do I do if I want to re-train?

As an Ambassador, you can re-take any training for $99. Please make sure to sign up for the training as soon as possible.

How long will it be before I receive my Certificate of Completion?

Once you have completed the Ambassador training you will receive your Certificate of Completion at the end of the last day of training.

Merchandise Questions

What is your return policy?

All sales purchased through masaladance.com are final. If you have received damaged or defective items we will exchange them at no additional cost to you. Exchanges must be made within 30 days of purchase otherwise merchandise credit will be issued. Any items purchased through other retailers are subject to that retailers return policy

How can I track my order?

You will receive an email with an order number, keep that on file. Once your order is processed, a tracking number will be sent to the email address you provided..

How can I purchase merchandise?

We sell t-shirts, hoodies, cargo pants, DVD’s, CDs, scarves, bars and the famous Patiala pants on our website. You also have the opportunity to purchase goods at our trainings, at the Expo of conferences we will be presenting at, and at our Master classes. What is the difference in DVDs?

Each DVD contains a different workout and focuses on a different style. Please look at the product information (details) of each DVD for more information.

How do I join the MBW® Ambassador Network ?

Below are the steps for signing up for the Ambassador Network:

  • Go to www.masalabhangraworkout.com
  • Once your training is done - your master instructor will mark your attendance in the system
  • This confirms that your training has been successfully completed.
  • You will then get an invitation email to join the network
  • Else, you can also login to your account on the website.
  • Here you will see the details of ambassador network and a join button.
  • Click on that and you would be taken to the payment page
  • Make the payment and you would be automatically granted access to the ambassador network.

I am an ambassador. I want to add my classes. Please guide.

Below are the steps for adding your classes (only for Ambassadors):

  • Go to Login and login with your username and password.
  • On the right side you will see a menu which has a link "Manage your classes" Click on that link.
  • Under the manage location tab - add the address of the location of your class.
  • Once all locations are added - click on the "Manage Class" tab. Select your location and add your classes - per day.

Once done your classes will automatically list on the site and when someone searches with your location/name etc. they will see your name.
