My dear Masala Bhangra Community,

I am still in disbelief.

January 1, 2025, marked 25 years of Masala Bhangra—the first-ever Indian dance workout. It’s a milestone I never imagined possible when I began this journey in 1999. Who would have thought that an idea born in my garage, inspired by my love for fitness, my Indian roots, and my desire to honor my father, would grow into a global movement embraced by people of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities?!!!

When I first envisioned Masala Bhangra, I could see the end result: the first Indian dance workout video. I just didn’t know how I was going to get there. But step by step, it all came together. I still remember the Aunties and Uncles telling me I was wasting my time and should focus on marriage and a “stable” career. But I was lucky—my mom and sister stood by my side despite the doubts and unsolicited advice.

I created Masala Bhangra to tell my dad two things: (1) I am proud to be both Indian and American, and (2) I was going to get the world up and moving, Indian style. I hope I’ve made him proud.

Just the other day, I received a message that melted my heart:

“Sarina, you had THE BEST Masala Bhangra workout on FitTV years ago!! I had it saved and used it over and over until my receiver died and it was lost. I would give anything to get that recording back!! You are awesome!”

This Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 10 AM EST, I’m teaching a Masala Bhangra class live in New York City—both in person and virtually. I would love for you to join me. If you can’t make it, consider joining my ON DEMAND gym. It’s free for 7 days. Give it a try, and you’ll feel like you’re right there in class with me and my students.

As I step into this milestone year, I dream of creating something truly special. Maybe it’s a book sharing my journey, an unforgettable old-school block party, or even an exclusive, invite-only celebration. Who knows? Whatever it turns out to be, I hope you’ll be there by my side to celebrate this incredible milestone.

Balle Balle,

Sarina Jain

PS. I am coming to Japan in March 2025. I will be doing a Masala Bhangra teacher training. Interested? Email me.
